The waste in manufacturing the panels are one, but one thing everyone is missing is this:

To deploy solar power, you need UNOBSTRUCTED view of the sun over its annual sweep. This means you need to have NOTHING between the panels and the sun the panels, EVER.

Although you can get landscapers to plan this out for you, this is a cost that is not taken into account, which can amount to a lot of cash.

I have a "green" neighbor who jumped into getting panels on their house, but the installers saw the trees and basically stripped the branches off of five "old growth" cherry and maple trees. I would say there was a pretty hefty environmental impact there. They wouldn't chop them down because of town ordinances, but they look really ugly and the neighbor is still hurting from the experience.

That is why solar farms are not as popular - they create shade when installed and require that full access to the sky to have maximum benefit.

If you set them in the city, all the buildings/skylines need to be adjusted to not create shadows over any arrays. Not easy to accomplish - as we have no "solar rights" laws yet.

Rural areas/farming fertile areas would be a decision of solar power for food or electricity. Not an easy decision.

Hope that helps.

If you are asking at the source i.e., at the sun, it would be helium and other larger molecules which are formed from the progressive nuclear fusion of smaller atoms staring with Hydrogen atoms as the raw material. But I really doubt if they can be called "waste" as traditionally "waste" is something "undesirable" created by a man-made process - the fusion happening in the Sun is not a man-made process, neither can we term the fusion products as "undesirable" from human perspective.
If you are talking of waste products generated by "using" solar energy on the earth, well there are literally none during the usage of solar energy. However, the wastes generated during manufacture of the solar cells/panels and their support apparatus like circuit boards/batteries/invertors and during their maintenance are indirectly wastes generated by using solar energy. Also, the gases/radiation expelled by the solar cells/panels and the support apparatus during their life-time can be termed as "wastes" as well.

You can find lot of useful information about solar energy here.

The main waste from the solar power system is the batteries that need to be changed every few years. The acid in the battery is not environment friendly.

I can't say exactly how your ideas will frame up but recently I came across this webpage that was talking about DIY solar panels. Have a look at it, it might help you.

Nothing in respect of their use but there are highly toxic by products resulting through the manufacturing process. Polysilicon is widely used in the manufacturing process the production of which produces silicon tetrachloride; 4 tons to each1 ton of poly' s as a by product. It is this chemical which is very toxic

There is nothing waste here actually..we are converting some form of energy into useful electric energy which otherwise lost for no good. Current technology we have, only converts 8%(max) of the solar power that falls on it into electric energy and the technology is very costly now...
solar power has
1)no carbon emission so no harm to the environment
2) plentifully available almost everywhere on earth
Unless you really care about the environment and you have plenty of money, don't go for solar power

It may be your falling bank account! I considered solar power for my RV, but decided that it would not be cost effective.
